Released in 1982, Fast Times at Ridgemont High helped launch the successful film careers of Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Nicolas Cage, along with the movie's director Amy Heckerling and writer, Cameron Crowe. With a soundtrack featuring some of the most well known artists of the 1980s, and a theme song, by Jackson Browne that continues to receive regular radio air play, Fast Times at Ridgemont High was chosen for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
