The original version was cancelled in 1995 as its influence waned, due to the rise in popularity of grunge and alternative rock. Headbanger's Ball has been reintroduced in varying degrees on MTV's sister channels and websites, however, during its initial run, it became one of the most popular shows in MTV history.
