Although Rock Lobster was recorded twice by The B-52's and released on two different albums, it's the second recording, from the band's debut album for Warner Brothers Records, that became one of the group's signature hits. Released in 1979, the Warner version of Rock Lobster was The B-52's' first charted single, reaching #56 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it is with the critics that the song had even more success. Rock Lobster is ranked at #147 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is one of the most recognizable songs due to its famous bass line.
