Formed in 1978 as a punk rock band, in Los Angeles, during the early days of the New Wave music movement, The Go-Go's became a pop music sensation, in the early 1980s, with the release of their debut album, Beauty and the Beat, which contained many of the band's biggest hits. In addition to being considered New Wave pioneers, The Go-Gos also broke gender ceilings, in the male dominated music industry, by becoming the first successful all female band that both wrote their own music and played their own instruments.
