Reaching store shelves on September 11, 1990, Cherry Pie became Warrant's most successful album, peaking at number 7 on the Billboard 200, with the title track, Cherry Pie, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Written in 15 minutes by Warrant's lead singer, Jani Layne, the Cherry Pie single was created under pressure from the president of Sony Music Entertainment, after the album was completed, to make the album more marketable. The Cherry Pie title track, featuring a guitar solo by Poison's C.C. DeVille, went into heavy rotation on radio stations and MTV and is considered a rock anthem, listed at number 56 on VH-1's greatest hard rock songs of all time.
