Written by Rivers Cuomo while a student at Harvard and disenchanted by the rock star lifestyle, Pinkerton initially received negative reviews but went onto receive wide acclaim years later, reaching Gold status in sales and being referred to as some of Weezer's best work by both critics and fans alike. Pinkerton was the last Weezer album to feature bass player Matt Sharp.
